What is the Ideal Blog Post Title Length for SEO?
The ideal length for blog post title is 50-60 characters, or 6-12 words long, as that’s the maximum length for Google search results.
It’s also the sweet spot for Facebook’s link preview feature.
The challenge is getting your title short enough to rank on Google, without skipping key details that will make the user click. Cause “blog post title length” isn’t exactly a compelling title, but “This is the ideal blog post title length for Google, ChatGPT Search, Facebook, and LinkedIn” is wayyy too long.
I was getting bored just writing it!
You need a concise and clear title that includes your keyword, tells the user why you’re different from your competitors or what benefit you offer them, and that grabs their attention.

Headlines in Email vs Organic Search Results
A perfect title is going to vary by the medium with which you’re sharing it with your users.
Social media and email marketing prioritize snappy headlines that may even be click-baity.
Meanwhile, SEO titles should be a bit longer and more descriptive, as they’ll be competing with a lot of other results in the SERPs.
They tend to be boring in comparison, with most focusing on the keyword itself rather than any fun puns.
I used to write post titles with tons of puns or imagery. But they didn’t perform well – even after I SEO optimized the content.
Why?
Because no one knew what I was going to tell them about. I buried the lead.
I needed to present the topic clearly straight away.
Here’s a legit example I’m embarrassed to share:
“Float beneath living lights in the land down under”
What do you think that post is about?
Probably not white water rafting in the Waitomo glowworm caves in New Zealand. Cause it never fricken told you!
Does Blog Post Title Length Matter?
The answer, dear reader, is a resounding yes—length absolutely matters when it comes to crafting an effective title for your blog post.
Coschedule did a study finding that 10-11 words is the ideal length for a blog post to optimize the click through rate (CTR) from Google.
Shorter titles are easier for people to digest and remember, but if your title is too short, you run the risk of coming across as flippant or unprofessional.
Meanwhile, titles that are too long can lose readers’ attention before they even get to the meat of your article.
So, 10 to 11 words it is!
Crafting a Clickable Blog Title
But it’s not just about quantity; it’s also about quality. In order to write an effective title, you need to focus on creating something that’s clickable and interesting enough to make people want to read more.
After all, no matter how great your article may be, if no one clicks on it in the first place, they’re never going to see it.
Here are a few tips for making your blog post title more clickable:
1. Use numbers or lists.
People love lists because they’re easy to scan and digest.
If you can sum up your article using numbers, do it!
For example, “5 Tips For Writing An Irresistible Blog Post Title” or “3 Reasons Why You Should Never Use A One-Word Title.”
Oddly, odd numbers tend to result in a higher CTR conversion rate. So when possible, try to add one more item to make it an odd number.
2. Ask a question.
Questions pique people’s curiosity and make them want to know more.
Try starting your title with “Have You Ever Wondered…?” or “Do You Know How To…”
3. Use strong verbs.
Action-oriented verbs like ” Boost,” “Generate,” or “Create” convey a sense of urgency that can encourage people to click on your article.
Just be careful not to go overboard; too many strong verbs in one title can make it sound like clickbait.
4. Be specific.
Specificity is key when it comes to writing an effective blog post title.
How specific you need to be will depend on your niche; if you write about a general topic like travel, you’ll need to be more specific than if you write about a niche topic like fashion photography tips for bloggers.
But in general, the more specific you can be, the better!
Titles like “The One Tip You Need To Know Before Your Next Trip to Venice” or “How To Dress Like A Fashion Blogger On A Budget” are much more likely to get clicked on than something nonspecific like “Tips For Traveling.”
By following these tips, you’ll be well on your way to writing irresistible blog post titles that will have people clamouring to read more of your content!
5. Keep it short and sweet.
Your title should be no longer than 60 characters.
This may seem like a challenge, but remember that you’re trying to make your title catchy, not write a novel.
Not only will this make your title more likely to be clicked on, but it will also ensure that your whole title appears in the search results, which is important for SEO purposes.
6. Use your exact keyword
When people are searching for something online, they use keywords.
These are the words or phrases that they believe will best describe what they’re looking for.
As such, you should try to incorporate strong keywords into your blog post title in order to increase the chances of your article being found in a search engine.
However, be careful not to stuff too many keywords into your title as this will not only look awkward but could also result in search engines penalizing your article.
7. Be clear about what the reader will get from reading your article.
Your title should give some indication of what the reader can expect from reading your article.
After all, if they click on your article and find that it’s not at all relevant to what they were looking for, they’re likely to click off straight away and never come back.
So make sure your title is descriptive and gives some hint of the content of your article without giving too much away – you want there to still be an element of surprise when they actually read the article!
For example, “You Won’t Believe What Happened When I Quit My Job and Moved Abroad” or “How I Lost 20 Pounds in 2 Months”.

Write Better Titles to Get More Traffic
Remember: when it comes to crafting an effective blog post title, length, and quality both matter.
Keep your titles short—around 10 or 11 words—for maximum impact, and use strong verbs, numbers or lists, and specific language whenever possible.
And most importantly—have fun with it!
The best titles are those that reflect the personality of the author.
So go forth and write those catchy headlines to increase your pageviews!
