What is AI Copywriting?
AI copywriting is an automated process that uses artificial intelligence to generate compelling content for websites and marketing campaigns.
It enables businesses and individuals to quickly produce quality content, like blog posts and email marketing pieces.
While a lot of writers fear the growth of AI copywriting, it really is an advantage.
Those that learn how to properly integrate AI writing into their process typically end up creating content faster and better. It’s a serious advantage if you know what you’re doing.
What is an AI Copywriting Tool?
AI copywriting tools use algorithms to analyze existing content in order to identify patterns and trends within the data.
This allows them to create customized pieces of written content that are tailored specifically to each customer’s needs.
These tools are often able to optimize the content for search engine optimization (SEO) purposes by automatically including relevant keywords throughout the text.
This helps ensure that your written material reaches its target audience more efficiently and quickly.
What can I use AI copywriting software for?
AI copywriting software can be used to create engaging content that connects with your audience.
Whether you need to produce social media posts, blog articles, or website copy, an AI-driven platform can give your digital presence the boost it needs to stand out from your competitors.
This new form of technology offers numerous benefits over traditional methods of creating written content.
With AI copywriting software, you’re able to generate high-quality text that resonates with their target audience faster than ever before.
Additionally, the right tool is often more cost effective than hiring a professional writer or editor.
How does it work?
AI copywriting is based on natural language processing (NLP).
This technology allows computers to understand human language and analyze text in order to create new content from existing sources.
These algorithms use machine learning to improve over time, allowing them to become more accurate as they gain more data and experience with different types of writing.
However, the output generated by AI copywriting tools can vary greatly.
What is the best AI copywriting tool?
There are a ton of great tools out there, most improving daily, but Jasper is my favorite. I use it to create almost all the content for my business.
How to use AI copywriting tools with SEO
You want to guide the tool to provide content that works for your audience.
Just because content can be written in a single click doesn’t mean it should be published in the next one.
With that in mind, there are a few key features that are important to look for when you’re searching for the right tool:
- Ease of Use: If it’s hard to use, you won’t use it
- Works on Multiple Devices: IF you work on more than one device, you want to make sure you can use it everywhere
- Integrations: This depends on what other tools you’re using, but having software that can integrate with other tools can make your workflow more smooth
- Collaboration-Friendly: For those that collaborate, tools that offer team seats are a great find
- Flexible Pricing: You don’t want to have to pay hundreds of dollars right out of the gate, find a tool that will grow with your business
- Editable: You want an in-tool editor so you don’t have to use a separate program
Most importantly, you want to make sure the tool works for you.
Limitations of AI Copywriting Tools
As amazing as they are, AI copywriting tools do have some limitations.
Because the machines rely on algorithms and programmed templates rather than their own ideas, the output can often lack originality and personality.
Due to their limited ability to understand complex topics or interpret subtle nuances in language, these programs are often less reliable at providing accurate information than human writers would be.
Finally, and most importantly, you will need to edit EVERYTHING that comes out of an AI tool.
Even if it’s the best content, you need to give it your personal spin.
Best AI copywriting tools
1. Jasper.ai (formerly Jarvis, formerly Conversion.ai)
It should surprise no one that Jasper is my favorite AI copywriting tool. Based on my personal experience, it produces the best content, especially if you learn how to use it properly. I use Jasper to help create content for my entire business from blog posts to email content, and it helps lighten my workload significantly.
Jasper has some pretty stellar tools. Not only can you access a bunch of template and tools that are designed to help you write specific pieces of content — from press releases to social media posts — they also have a chat-style creator and an AI art generator. You can truly do everything with Jasper, and you don’t have to be an AI genius to use it.
Features:
- Templates and tools
- Long form writer
- Chat
- AI art
Pricing: $49+
Free Trial: Yes
Best For: AI copy and content
Is Jasper AI a legit tool for copywriting?
Yes, Jasper AI is by-far my favorite copywriting tool. Not only can you use it to create short form content, you can also create longer form projects including blog posts and eBooks.
2. Copy.ai
Copy.ai is another great AI based copywriting tool with a freemium plan that allows you to take it for a decent test ride. While the tool isn’t perfect — it can generate bad or repeated content — it is more advanced than some other tools on the market.
All-in-all, this tool is easy to use, has good support if you have any issues, and is easy to set up. But it could use some more internal organization features.
Features:
- 90+ copywriting tools
- Idea recommendation
Pricing: $0+
Free Trial: Yes
Best For: Those trying AI out
What I Like:
- Variety of copywriting tools
- Free account to test it out
- Unlimited account is also affordable
What I Don’t Like:
- Need sub folders for organizing better inside
- Some glitches in the AI
3. Writesonic
Writesonic is another one of the best copywriting AI writers that offers a variety of tools to help you create stellar content marketing material. I like that they have a highly affordable plan that almost any content creator should be able to use.
That said, the quality of output is often reported as so-so, the tool is buggy and the roadmap isn’t clear. It’s very much a tool that’s still in development.
Features:
- AI article writer
- Paraphrasing tool
- Sentence expander
- Text summarizer
- AI Art generator
- Product description generator
- Landing page generator
- Surfer SEO integration
Pricing: $13+ per month
Free Trial: Yes
Best For: Budget-minded writers
What I Like:
- Highly affordable option with generous allowances
What I Don’t Like:
- System is often reported as buggy
- Doesn’t output high quality content
4. Rytr
Rytr is another affordable AI copywriting tools that many can access and learn on. Not only does it have a free plan, but the paid plans start at $9 per month.
However, while it can help you improve your workflow, it’s not Jasper. There aren’t that many templates you can access to get you started (though they have a few), and the content experience isn’t as smooth.
Features:
- Sentence rephraser
- Sentence formatting
- Tone checker
- Grammar checker
- Auto correct
Pricing: $0+
Free Trial: Yes
Best For: Short form content
What I Like:
- Affordable plans
- Easy to use
What I Don’t Like:
- Doesn’t have a lot of templates
- Doesn’t match Jasper
5. Anyword
Anyword is an AI copywriting tool that provides you with over 300 different tools/templates that you can use to build the copy you want. I like that it has an affordable plan along with a free trial so you can figure out if it’s a good tool for you.
However, while their entry plan is affordable, there are a lot of premium tools that are locked behind higher paywalls. Not to mention there is a limited credits system which might or might not give you enough to produce what you need.
This is the first tool I tried and I wrote off AI for a long time because of its often poor outputs.
Features:
- 100+ AI writing tools
- 200+ copywriting tools
- Blog post wizard
- 30 languages
- Multiple seats
Pricing: $29+ per month
Free Trial: Yes
Best For: Any kind of copy
What I Like:
- Affordable starter plan
- Quick copy generation
- Works for any type of content
What I Don’t Like:
- No direct integrations
- Lacks important templates
- Limited credits
- Premium tools locked in higher accounts
6. ChatGPT by Open.ai
ChatGPT by Open.ai flew onto the scene in November 2022, and really blew up earlier this year. It’s an AI writer that creates content via chat features. It’s a lot of fun to use, and you can access AI copywriting free!
You simply start a chat with ChatGTP and the pair of you (you and the AI) start creating content pieces together. You can create almost anything with this AI writer from code to screenplay ideas — however, it does have a cap of about 500 words in its replies. That means you’ll need to write longer content in steps.
I’ve tried their premium plan and it’s not worth the $20. You still get lags and booted off it when it’s busy.
Features:
- Minimalist design
- Can help you create almost anything
Pricing: Free
Free Trial: Currently free to try
Best For: If you prefer chat conversations
What I Like:
- Minimalist style
- Easy to use
- Free for everyone (right now)
What I Don’t Like:
- The content needs a lot of work
- There is no long form editor, you need to throw content into a different document to work with it
Check out this cool hack with ChatGPT to write newsletters free!
7. Frase
Use AI to enhance your content workflow with Frase. You can do everything from planning your content to write it right inside the program.
This AI-enhanced tool is designed to help you streamline your workflow and outrank your competitors with a little help from AI. It helps you spend less time creating better content by letting you know how long it should be, what you need to include, and it can even help you write a bit of it too.
This is NOT the same style of automated copywriting software like Jasper. Its AI writing is primarily an add on feature, with its main function being helping you streamline your workflow.
Features:
- Prepare a fast content brief
- Content optimization blueprint
- Content analytics and analysis
- WordPress
Pricing: $14.99+ per month
Free Trial: No (5 days for $1)
Best For: Optimizing SEO-focused blog posts
What I Like:
- Helps you optimize blog posts for SEO
- Easy to use
- More affordable than alternatives like SurferSEO
What I Don’t Like:
- Low limits for AI word generation
- Not AI-writing focused, its more of an add-on
- Upsells that aren’t worth it
8. WordHero
Like other programs, WordHero allows you to create a variety of documents using AI power. It can help you write anything from short social media posts to long form blogs, and everything in between, making it some of the best AI copywriting software out there.
One big benefit WordHero has over competitors (right now) is that you can currently grab a lifetime deal on AppSumo — that means you pay only once. For the budget-minded bloggers, this is a great option.
However, it’s NOT Jasper or Chat GPT. While it’s more advanced than many competitors, it doesn’t operate quite as smooth as Jasper. Specifically, if you’re looking for a single-key continue command it’s just not there in the same way.
That said, WordHero’s tools are all available right there if you’re using the long form editor. This makes it easy to switch between generating an intro paragraph and expanding your bullet points — or anything else you might want to do.
Features:
- Keyword assistant
- Editor mode
- 100+ languages
- Easy interface
- Long and short form tools
Pricing: $49+ per month
Free Trial: No
Best For: Long form content, but they have tool for short form content too
What I Like:
- Long form content editor
- Bullet expander turns your thoughts into paragraphs
- More affordable option considering the generous limits
What I Don’t Like:
- Not as smooth as Jasper
- Bit of a learning curve to get it to work with you
- No separate direct links to documents or folder organization options — everyone’s in one awkward place
9. Hypotenuse AI
Hypotenuse AI helps you create all kinds of online content, but particularly with simply product descriptions with its Shopify integration. I like that it also helps you track competitors — though not as well as a full competitor tracking tool. But as per a lot of the AI tools, you’ll need to do a lot of work to make the content publishable.
Features:
- Content Detective — internal fact-checking capabilities
- Batch content generator
- Blog article wizard
- Plagiarism checker
Pricing: $29+
Free Trial: Yes (7 days)
Best For: Product descriptions
What I Like:
- Integrates right into Shopify which is great if you need help with product descriptions
- Blog content can be created in less than 5 minutes
What I Don’t Like:
- The content generated needs a lot of work
10. SEO Content Machine
If you prefer working right on your device, SEO Content Machine might be for you. This is an actual app you install right on your device, which in-turn saves the content locally. It also has a built-in WordPress poster and helps you optimize your content. However, it doesn’t create the best content.
Features:
- Native App for Windows, Mac OS and Linux
- Content locally stored
- You can write AND publish from one dashboard
Pricing: $27+ per month
Free trial: Yes (5 days)
Best For: An all-in-one suite on your computer (not the web)
What I Like:
- Free trial option
- Integrated with spinners and re-writers
- User-friendly interface
What I Don’t Like:
- Could use a longer trial period
- Content generated needs A LOT of work
11. Writecream
Writecream is another stellar budget option with a generous free plan that you can get on and try it out. If you’re just starting your foray into AI writing and don’t have Jasper money yet, this could be a good option.
Features:
- Content type specific tools
- Sentence rephraser
- Tone checker
- Sentence formatting
- Grammar checker
- Style editor
- Autocorrect
- Plagiarism checker
- Metrics
Pricing: $0+
Free trial: Free forever plan
Best For: Those with low budgets looking to try AI out
What I Like:
- Easy to use UI
- Quick and responsive support team
- Multi language supported
What I Don’t Like:
- Doesn’t have a lot of features
- Paraphraser could use updates
- Google Ad feature isn’t good
12. Smart Copy by Unbounce
Smart Copy by Unbounce offers a fairly generous freemium plan that allows you 5 credits per day. It promises to help you write more compelling content, get over writer’s bloc and save a ton of time.
Features:
- A ton of templates from Google Ads to product descriptions
- Content rephraser
- Long form writer
- Chrome extension in Beta
Pricing: $0+
Free trial: Yes
Best For: Budget-minded individuals
What I Like:
- Free plan that you can legitimately use to test it out
- Chrome extension (technically in Beta)
What I Don’t Like:
- Technology can use a bit of improvement (but it gets better daily)
13. Copysmith
If you want a tool that can help you quickly create first drafts, Copysmith might be for you. It features an easy-to-use system that can spit out OK content quickly. You’ll need to do a lot of editing (as you should with most AI) but it’s got affordable entry-level pricing.
Features:
- Article writing assistant
- Blog ideas
- Blog outline
- Blog post
- Product descriptions
- There are also an array of brainstorming templates
Pricing: $19+ per month
Best For: Ideas and first drafts
What I Like:
- Tool works fast to generate content
- YouTube channel is full of easy to understand tutorials
What I Don’t Like:
- Mediocre content
- Not as comprehensive as other tools on the list
14. AI-Writer
AI-Writer is described as being a minimalist tool perfect for short and long form content. What I like the most is that it has an affordable entry level plan. However, it’s not as customizable as other further along tools.
Features:
- AI text generator
- Rewriter
- SEO editor
- Subtopic discovery
- API access
Pricing: $29+ per month
Free trial: Yes
Best For: Beginners with small budgets
What I Like:
- Affordable starter plan
- 2-minute basic article
What I Don’t Like:
- Not as many customization options
15. Copyshark
Copyshark boasts “copy in 1 click.” It can help you create anything from ad copy to blog posts — though it focuses on blog paragraphs instead of full content. But it features a number of tools that can help you build converting copy.
Features:
- 50+ tools to help you generate copy
- Supports 100+ languages
- Creates copy quickly
Pricing: $29+ per month
Free trial: Yes
Best For: One-off projects
What I Like:
- Easy to use
- Different tools designed to help you create different types of copy
What I Don’t Like:
- Overall the tool offers a lot but doesn’t always provide
- It’s still in the beginning stages
16. Writerzen
Writerzen is a hybrid program that combines both AI writing and SEO content planning. It’s an all-in-one suite perfect for new bloggers learning the content planning purpose. However, this tool is best for content instead of copy.
Features:
- Keyword explorer
- Content creator
- Topic discovery
- Cluster grouping
- Keyword importer
- Plagiarism checker
- Keyword lists
Pricing: $39+ per month
Best For: Full content suite
What I Like:
- All in one suite
- Built in how-to guide that tells you exactly how to use it while you’re using it
What I Don’t Like:
- The AI tool is a little awkward to use
- Keyword search takes some getting used to and isn’t as straightforward as a tool like Keysearch
17. Persado
Admittedly, I’ve never used Persado but I know it’s used by massive brands.
It’s one of those contact us and we’ll tell you how much it costs program that probably is a better deal for agencies instead of individual content creators.

- Motivation-focused AI
- Hyper personalization
- Built in analytics to see how it’s doing
- Integrates with your tech stack
Pricing: N/A

What I Like:

Phrasee is another one of those “contact us” programs. It’s used by big brands, focused on conversions and clicks, and can assist you with everything from web copy to SMS messages.
Features:
- Natural language generation
- Deep learning
- Dynamic optimization
- Automation
- Customer insights
- Integrations
Pricing: N/A
Free trial: Not advertised

19. ClosersCopy

22. Bertha
Bertha is an AI copywriter that works right in WordPress. You simply install the plugin and start working with it — it has a free plan so you can test it out and make sure it’s the right pick for you. However, it does mean that you need to add another plugin to WordPress which could slowdown your site.

- AI text editor
- AI image generator
Pricing: $45+ per month
Free Trial: Yes
Best For: Writing right inside WordPress
What I Like:
- Works right in WordPress with a variety of page builders

23. Texta
Texta aims to automate the whole content process for you. You enter your keyword and their system writes the full post for you. It boasts a single click article draft, with a second click for publishing. Unfortunately, the content that’s created is really only worth a first draft.
Features:
- Write content

- Collaborate with your team
- 1-click publishing
- Language conversion
Pricing: $25+ per month
Free Trial: Yes
Best For: Long form content (first draft only)

- You can have a 1,500 word article in less than 60 seconds
What I Don’t Like:

What I Don’t Like:
- Article limits instead of copy limits (you can only write or optimize 4 articles on their basic plan)
- Not necessarily built for copy
25. Headlime
Headlime is specifically focused on creating copy, not content. Built for both individual copywriters and marketing agencies, it’s designed to help create copy content like Facebook ads, idea generation, and headlines. It also features a handy AI-powered landing page builder for those that need it.

What I Don’t Like:
- A LOT of features are locked behind their premium plans
- You don’t get full features until you’re in their Premium plan (or higher)
28. Content at Scale
Content at Scale is a unique AI tool because it was created by content marketers instead of developers. Their plans are based on articles instead of words, and the pricing is higher than competitors.
