Are Blogging Courses Worth It?: Should You Spend the Money (2024)
Are blogging courses worth it?
This is a question that a lot of people have, and the answer is not always clear.
On the one hand, you can learn a lot from a good course, and on the other hand, there are many free resources available online.
So what’s the best way to go?
In this article, we’ll take a look at both sides of the issue and help you make up your mind.
I’ll be honest: I didn’t pay for a blogging course until my 3rd year of blogging.
Want to know how much I made before that? I grand total of $83.
Not per month; total!
And I – to this day – haven’t been paid that money thanks to Google Adsense’s requirements to hit $100.
But once I invested $500 in a course, the next month I was making $200 a month – and it’s continued to scale ever since!
So TLDR;; Yes, blogging courses are worth it!

10 Reasons Why Blogging Courses Are Worth It
1. Free Resources Are Limited
The reality is that free resources are limited.
When you’re just starting out, you can find a lot of helpful information online.
But at some point, you’ll reach a limit.
And when that happens, you’ll need to look for other sources of information.
You can definitely listen to hours and hours of free podcasts every day, scour Youtube, and hope to find the secret sauce in free blog posts.
But 99% of bloggers will hold back that 1% gem that will get you from $100 a month to $10,000 a month. They put this behind a paywall.
Why, you might ask, don’t they make this info free?
Because they worked really damn hard to learn it. They likely spent thousands of dollars and years of their life developing these strategies.
It’s only fair they get paid for their specialist knowledge.

2. Treat Your Blog Like a Business
When you’re just starting out, it’s easy to treat your blog like a hobby.
But if you want to make money from your blog, you need to treat it like a business.
And that means investing in yourself and your blog.
A blogging course can help you do that.
When you spend $0 on your blog, you’re going to see low returns.
This isn’t just because you have to spend money to make money. It’s because you won’t know what you’re doing.
Sure you could just show up at a law firm one day and hope to learn all about law by osmosis, but you’re not going to get hired or get paid the big bucks.
You’ll be an unpaid intern who still won’t have credentials at the end of a three-year apprenticeship. Because that’s just not how it works.
To see returns, you have to invest.
Think of your blog like a brick-and-mortar store. You’d need to pay rent, get stock, pay for employees, and cover utilities.
Many people think they can get into blogging for free because of the low overhead, but you still have to invest that same money in different ways if you’re going to be successful.
Maybe you don’t have rent, but you do need to invest in blogging courses.
Learn how this changed my blog strategy and helped me scale to $30k a month in income!
3. Learn From Pros
When you take a blogging course, you’ll be learning from pros.
They’ve already been where you are, and they know what it takes to be successful.
They can give you the insider information that you need to take your blog to the next level.
These people have spent years working to grow their blog. So they know what they’re talking about.
And because it’s paid, they’re going to ensure they’re giving you more value to justify you spending your money.
In a blog post, I might not spend the time sharing every single way I find zero volume keywords or all of the tricks I use to make Jasper.ai write affiliate posts on specific hotels that convert.
That’s because I’m not being paid to do so, and anyone can read those. Why would I give away all my secrets for $0?
Answer: I won’t.
Instead, I charge for these techniques that I’ve developed. Then I offer 2x or even 3x the value of the course and provide WAY more information to ensure my customers are happy.
4. Avoid Blogging Mistakes
When you’re just starting out, it’s easy to make mistakes.
And those mistakes can cost you time, money, and readers.
A blogging course can help you avoid those mistakes.
You’ll learn what works and what doesn’t. And this can save you YEARS.
Like I said, I spent 3 years making every mistake there was. And no one was going to tell me to stop because I didn’t pay anyone to show me how to do it the right way.
I spent hours daily in those Facebook comment threads resharing other people’s posts. I wrote on whatever I felt like, rather than writing for my audience. And I made no money because of it.
Experts have made the mistakes already, so you don’t have to!
5. Save Time
When you’re just starting out, it can take FOREVER to figure out how to do things.
You have to piece together information from different sources. And then you have to trial and error to figure out what works.
This can take years. But it doesn’t have to.
A blogging course can show you how to do things the right way from the start.
You won’t have to waste time figuring things out for yourself.
You can get started on the path to success today.
You’ll also save time from listening to 100 podcasts trying to find that hidden golden nugget of info to make $10k a month blogging.
Your time is too valuable to try to save $100 by wasting 100+ hours of your life. That’s time you could be blogging!

6. Become a Specialist
When you become a specialist, you can charge more.
You can niche down and become the go-to person for that topic.
People are willing to pay more for this because they know they’ll get results.
And when you have a course, you can show people that you’re the expert.
Via blogging courses, you can become an SEO specialist, a photography expert, an affiliate marketing guru, or even a blog coach!
Most people in our industry don’t take uni courses, like I did, to add to their certifications. They take blogging courses (which, having done a uni course, I can say are MUCH better and more up to date with their information).
7. Make Connections
In a blogging course, you’ll meet other bloggers.
You’ll be able to connect with them and form relationships.
These people can become your friends, collaborators, and even mentors.
They can help you grow your blog and take it to the next level.
And these people are usually really friendly!
Blogging is lonely when you don’t have friends.
The first blogging membership I joined, Jessie on a Journey’s Travel Blog Prosperity, finally made me feel like I was a part of something. I’ve made some amazing blogging friends that I know I’ll have for years to come.
8. Keep Up with Trends
The blogging industry is always changing.
What worked last year might not work this year.
That’s why it’s important to keep up with the latest trends.
A blogging course can help you do that.
You’ll learn about the latest changes and what you need to do to stay ahead of the game.
You don’t want to be the last person to know about Google’s newest algorithm update that just killed your traffic.
And even if you are, you don’t want to have no idea how to fix it!
9. Get 1:1 Support
When you’re just starting out, it can be hard to get help.
You might not have anyone to turn to when you need help with your blog.
But when you take a premium blogging course (over $2k), you’ll usually get 1:1 support.
This means you can get help when you need it.
It may be more expensive, but having someone look at your blog in particular and tell you EXACTLY what you need to do to make $10k a month is massive.
If they know exactly where your issues lie and how to fix them, you can again save so much time versus hunting for these secrets yourself.
10. Make Money Blogging
This is the ultimate goal, right?
You want to make money from your blog.
And a blogging course can help you do that.
A good blogging course will teach you how to monetize your blog.
It will show you what types of products and services to sell. Or it’ll teach you how to make your affiliates convert. Or it’ll improve your SEO to increase ad revenue.
There are SO many ways to make money blogging, but a good blog course will be able to fast track you to 6-figures.

Good Vs. Bad Blogging Courses
Not all blogging courses are created equal.
Some are better than others.
And some are just a waste of time and money.
Here’s how to tell the difference between a good blogging course and a bad one:
A good blogging course is…
1. Created by a successful blogger who has social proof of clients or their own income/traffic that they can show you
2. Focuses on a single topic or niche
3. Comes with a money-back guarantee or an offer to speak with you to help you make the most of the course
4. Has actionable steps
5. The teacher offers support
6. Is timely and relevant today (they didn’t get big in 2004 and claim those strategies still work)
A bad blogging course is…
1. Created by someone who hasn’t achieved success in what they’re selling, or they only make an income from course sales
2. Tries to be a Jack (or Jill) of all trades and covers too many topics
3. Offers no guarantee or refund policy
4. Only offers generalities that don’t help you take action
5. The teacher is unresponsive or unhelpful
6. Is outdated and uses strategies that no longer work
Do your research and make sure the course you’re interested in meets these criteria.
A clear sign of a good blogging course is that they’ll put you in touch with past students directly who can speak to the course and who have seen an increase in traffic/income as a direct result of the course.
Can’t I Google It?
Of course, you can Google it.
But here’s the thing…
When you Google “how to make money blogging” or “SEO tips for bloggers”, you’re going to get a TON of results.
And most of them are going to be from people who have never made a dime blogging.
You don’t want to waste your time reading a bunch of articles from people who have no idea what they’re talking about.
You want to learn from people who are actually making money blogging.
People who know what they’re doing and can show you how to do it too.
And, like I said above, those of us who make 6-figures a year blogging don’t want to just give away all of our hard earned strategies. We charge for them!
So even though I have many posts that show up on page 1 of Google about blogging, you can’t read them all and know 100% of my strategy. I keep that 1% (if not more) for my students who are prepared to invest in themselves and grow to $10k months.

Closing Thoughts: Are Blogging Courses Worth It?
So, are blogging courses worth it?
The answer is a resounding YES!
If you want to make money from your blog and shortcut the process, then investing in a good blogging course is the way to go.
Not all courses are created equal, so do your research to make sure you’re getting one that will actually help you achieve your goals.
And remember, if you don’t have the time or patience to learn everything on your own, there’s no shame in seeking out help from those who have been successful. Sometimes it even makes more sense to outsource tasks that just aren’t in your wheelhouse (that’s what I do with tech!).
Honestly, the only way I’ve grown is with blogging courses. Without them, I’d still be writing 1,000 word crappy posts, spending 80+ hours a week in Facebook sharing threads, and be miserable at a desk job somewhere.
Blogging courses gave me the tools I needed to grow my business to 6-figures a year. And they can for you too!
