How to Turn Off @Everyone Tags in Facebook Groups
Hate everyone tags and don’t want to receive notifications from groups that use them?
I’ll show you a few ways to opt out in any group.
I use the @everyone tag in my own Facebook Groups to increase engagement. But if you use it too often you do risk losing group members. I know many people who have left groups – myself included – because the admin abused the tag and posted it every day.
I personally only use it 1x per week at MOST. And usually it’s just 1x per month – which is the recommend max I tell my students. I’ve only upped it when I was doing special discounts each week for a launch.
But I think it’s important to give everyone the option to opt out. Respect their boundaries so you can maintain your community’s vibes.
Here’s how you can opt out of the tag – and feel free to share this link with your group when you use it, the way I do:
Turn Off @Everyone Tags for Every Group You’re In
Step 1: Click on your profile picture on Facebook in the upper right corner of your screen.
Step 2: Select the setting icon or the word “Settings if you’re on desktop.
Step 3: Scroll to the “Notifications” are and click on the word “Tags”. This will open more options for notifications.
Step 4: Scroll to “Batch Mentions”. This is their term for the @everyone tag.
Step 5: Toggle Batch Mentions off. Now you won’t receive everyone tags for any group you’re in!
Turn Off @Everyone Tags for a Single Group
Method 1: Mobile
Step 1: Open the Facebook App on your phone. Navigate to the Facebook Group you want to adjust.
Step 2: Click on the “Joined” button. You have to be a member of the group for this to work.
Step 3: Select “Manage Notifications”
Step 4: Click “Posts”. This will open all of the options for post notifications.
Step 5: At the bottom is “Batched Mentions”. Turn these off and you won’t get any @everyone tags anymore.
Method 2: Desktop
Step 1: Wait until someone in the group uses the @everyone tag. Then open your Facebook notifications.
Step 2: Hover over the notification until 3 dots are revealed. Click on these.
Step 3: A pop up will appear that has an option to “Turn off everyone notifications from [Group Name]”. Select this and you won’t get anymore notifications for that group when the tag is used.
Can You Turn Off Tags in Group Messages?
Currently, you cannot turn off everyone tags from Facebook Group chat messages.
I leave these to stop getting notifications.
